Be Free Young Carer is an Oxfordshire charity which supports young carers between the ages of 8 and 25 who care for someone in their family who has a physical illness or disability, a mental health problem or who is dependent on drugs or alcohol. The care may involve cooking, cleaning, washing or doing the shopping. They may help with washing or dressing the person who needs help.
A young carer may find it difficult or stressful to juggle responsibilities of home with the pressures of school life. They need to relax and have fun. Be Free Young Carer organises day trips and activities to give young carers the chance to relax and have a break from their caring: We listen and respond to their needs. The work of the charity has been very important especially during the pandemic.
As a Trustee of this worthwhile charity, one of our parishioners, Alison, is doing a sponsored cycle ride to link in with the London Marathon. Last year Alison did 26 half circuits of the estate where she lives – a total of 13 miles and she has decided to do the same this year.
